week two: plot aspects

What Is the Plot of a Story? The 5 Parts of the Narrative

PLOT ASPECTS:

plot is a sequence of events within a movie that tells a story. Essentially, a plot is what makes a story. Five components make up a plot: exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution--conflict and theme help drive the plot forward.

  • 6) PACE
    • work well or drag, how? too fast, too slow
  • (7) MUSIC/SOUND:
    • sound creates mood; believe what see b/c in part what you hear
    • How does music/sound contribute to the production?
  • (8) CINEMATOGRAPHY/DIRECTING TECHNIQUES, EFFECTS:
    • lighting, positioning; “moving pictures;” special effects
    • How does cinematography contribute to film?
  • (9) DIRECTOR:
    • style, interpretation, pace, acting, music, costumes
    • Has s/he done her/his job?
  • (10) VALUE:
    • moral, social, psychological value beyond entertainment
    • Is the entertainment value enough for you to recommend this production?
  • Conflict: tension, stress, pressure struggle between opposing forces
    • problems, antagonisms, arguments, resistance
    • effort, clashes, impediments
    • obstacles to goals/desires
    • creates tension, crisis, suspense
  • PERSON vs.
    • (internal)
      • Self
    • (external)
      • Person
      • Society
      • Nature/Environment
      • Deity
      • Supernatural Entity
      • Technology

We can definitely understand that the plot is one if not the most important in a movie, it is what drives the attention of the audience and we can underhand that a movie with a bad plot is the worst that exist because it turns the movie to a waste of time and it becomes very boring. I want my plot to be interesting and not too much repetitive because filming a plot that is seen often in every drama movie will be so repetitive and boring. A factor that is also very important is the "pace", the pace of a movie is something very important because it leads to the attention of the audience. a movie with a fast pacing it will feel force and little professional but a movie with a neutral pace will definitely drive the attention and keep the audience engaged with the movie.
